After the recent discover by russian, japanese and northamerican scientifics of four new chemical elements, the IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry), http://iupac.org has shown the names with which they will be added to the periodic table.
Nihonium (Nh) for the element 113.
Moscovium (Mc) for the element 115.
Tennessine (Ts) for the element 117.
Oganesson (Og) for the element 118.
The IUPAC set now a public review period of five months. After it will be finished (on november 2016), if no claim has been presented, the choosen names would be definitely accepted.
All the new names are according to the IUPAC specifications about the features that they must have. Keeping on with the tradition, newly discovered elements can be named after a mythological concept or character (including an astronomical object), a mineral or similar substance, a place or geographical region, a property of the element or a scientist. They must be translated easily to other languages too.
In this case the three first new elements are referred to a geographical places: Nihon (is a way to say Japan in japanese, and literally mean “Land of Rising Sun”), Moscow and Tenessee. The last of them has been chosen in honour of the scientific Professor Yuri Oganessian.
